About this Hands-on Lab

In this lab, we will learn about Visual Studio App Center applications and distribution groups. In this scenario, we will create an application in App Center and then create a distribution group with an external user to be notified when there is a new build, which will help with collaboration across the development lifecycle.

You should be familiar with the following:

* Azure DevOps Repos
* Visual Studio App Center

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Create an Azure DevOps Repo
  1. Log in to the Azure portal
  2. Create an Azure DevOps organization
  3. Import the UWP application code into your project using the GitHub repo
Configure Visual Studio App Center
  1. Create an application in Visual Studio App Center
  2. Add an external user as a collaborator to the application
  3. Create a distribution group for the external user
Configure an Application Build
  1. Configure a build for the application
  2. Release the app to the distribution group

Additional Resources

To complete this lab, you will need to import the code for a UWP application that will be built in Visual Studio App Center. The code for the application can be found in this GitHub repo.

Import the code into your Azure DevOps Repo in your project and use the appcenter branch to create your Windows UWP application in Visual Studio App Center.

This lab will also use Visual Studio App Center, which can be found at https://appcenter.ms/.

Credentials will be provided to log in to the Azure portal and can be used for App Center as well.

You will also need an email account to be added as part of a distribution group. You can use your personal email or create a test account using Gmail, Outlook, GitHub, or Facebook.
