I don’t work for Google, but I’d guess it might have something to do with the fact that both are extremely legacy (nobody hates their customer more than Oracle, for example) and both have very complex licensing models. MySQL and Postgres have surpassed both, by wide-margins, when it comes to agility of new functionality and performance per-unit of cost. Personally, I’m surprised that MariaDB isn’t an option, given that Oracle owns MySQL.
