I cannot SSH into my private subnet from my public server

Did you change your private key ownership ? try chmod 400 MyPvKey.pem

so i just redid it and pasted in my key with header and footer of "BEGIN RSA Private…." then did chmod 400 then this time i was asked for a passkey and when i didn’t have that i was denied permission where can i find my passkey?
