I also received an email saying that those who took it would be refunded the cost of the test. We would also be provided the opportunity to take the second beta at no cost when it’s re-released, and also get a free retake after it goes live.

Is this still true? As in is this still in beta phase? I want to take it before end of this year…
Yep, Amazon have said they have withdrawn this certification, those who did the beta will not get a pass or fail due to errors in the test. See https://aws.amazon.com/certification/faqs/
