On the test key section. I had issues with loading the downloaded private key into putty gen on a windows system "Couldn’t load private key (unrecognised key type)", not sure why… anyway from the bastion host the test works fine and I’m able to log on to new instance with the HSM key

Seems to be a format error for the private key. Might be the same as with the public key in the AWS Management Console.
