About this Hands-on Lab

We can run ad hoc commands and configure multiple servers at once through the use of Salt’s execution modules, and we can discover which execution modules we have available by using the `sys` module against our minions. `sys` also offers module and function information, including details in how to use the requested execution module or function.

Learning Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Install Apache

Using sysmod discover the module and function needed to install Apache. Then install the package.

Create the Virtual Hosts File

Discover a module to manage Apache. Then add a virtual hosts file.

Move the Website

Move the sample website to /var/www/html.

Additional Resources

You need to prepare a couple of web servers prior to setting up your Salt states. As such, you want to use execution modules to prepare both servers at once from the master. Use the sysmod module to discover the needed modules to prepare the server. Ensure Apache is installed, create a virtual hosts file, and then upload the example website provided in /tmp/files/sample-website on the minions.
