About this Hands-on Lab

In this hands-on lab, you are tasked with configuring Chef cookbooks to be used with Test Kitchen.

Chef Workstation and Docker have been installed, but you will need to ensure the CentOS instance is up and running.

Learning Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Log In to the Provided Server and Ensure It Is Ready

Log in to the server as cloud_user with the provided password to ensure you can login. The server has Chef Workstation already installed. When the file SERVER-READY is listed in the /home/cloud_user folder, then you can start the tasks.

Create and Edit a Default Cookbook under the Chef Folder

Create a cookbook called testing, using the appropriate command, then use the cd command to move it to the cookbook. Find the appropriate file used by Test Kitchen, edit it to be used with Docker, and ensure that only the CentOS instance is started. Do not add a version to the CentOS instance in order to grab the latest Docker image.

Use Appropriate Commands to Start Up a Test Kitchen Environment

Use the appropriate commands to start the Test Kitchen environment. Test if the environment is able to start and is accessible. Once you have confirmed accessibility, then you have successfully completed this lab.

Additional Resources

You have been tasked with configuring Chef Test Kitchen on a CentOS 7 server.

You have been provided with the server and Chef Workstation is already installed for you.

You want to use Docker with Test Kitchen and Docker has been pre-installed. You will need to create a Chef cookbook. Then modify the file, so that Test Kitchen uses Docker instead of Vagrant.

You may need to install extra software to complete the task.

Once you are able to get the required instance up and running, you will need to log in to that instance and confirm it is working.
