About this Hands-on Lab

In this Live Environment you will be taking on the role of a DevOps Engineer. Your team has decided to setup a syslog drain for a user api that was deployed a month ago. The decision was made to use Paper Trail for the syslog server. In this Live Environment you will learn how to use Paper Trail with Cloud Foundry.

Create a user provided service for the user api
Bind the service to app

Register for a Pivotal Cloud Foundry account. http://run.pivotal.io/

This lab requires that you have a Paper Trail account. It's free to signup. https://papertrailapp.com/

Use the cf-cli to login to your Pivotal Cloud Foundry account.

Cleanup any lingering resources.

You will have an app called user-api in /root.

Execute a cf push to bootstrap your environment with the manifest file.

Login to Paper Trail.

Create a new system https://papertrailapp.com/systems/new.

Select I User Cloud Foundry enter a name and create a new system.

Use the URL and port to create a new user provided service.

Bind the service to the user api.

Restart the user api to for the service to take effect.

Verify that log data is draining into Paper Trail.

Once complete deprovision user api.
