Installing JBoss EAP on RHEL 8

Red Hat's JBoss Enterprise Application Platform (EAP) is a Java EE-based application platform built around deploying and managing Java applications and services. JBoss EAP is cross-platform and works on anything that supports Java. This hands-on lab focuses on a Red Hat 8 deployment wherein we configure JBoss EAP to run as a service on the machine.

    Install JBoss EAP

    1. Run the installer located in the cloud_user's home directory.

    2. In the installer, set the following values:

      • Select your language below: Enter 0 for English.
      • End user license agreement: Enter 1 to continue.
      • Select the installation path: Use /opt/jboss-eap to match default configuration and enter 1 to continue.
      • Select the packs you want to install: Enter 0 to confirm and 1 to continue.
      • Admin username: Enter admin.
      • Admin password: Enter your password twice and 1 to continue.
      • Configure Runtime Environment: Enter 0 to perform the default configuration and 1 to continue.
      • Would you like to generate an automatic installation script and properties file?: Enter n.
  3. Challenge

    Configure JBoss EAP as a Service

    1. Create the service user.

    2. Open the configuration file.

    3. Uncomment the JBOSS_HOME and JBOSS_USER settings; save and exit.

    4. Copy service files to the appropriate locations.

    5. Set script as an executable.

    6. Set the service to start automatically.

    7. Create the /var/run/jboss-eap directory and set the jboss-eap user as the owner.

    8. Change the ownership of /opt/jboss-eap as well.

  4. Challenge

    Set SELinux Policy for JBoss

    An SELinux type enforcement file is provided at /home/cloud_user/selinux/jboss-eap-rhel.te.

    1. Create a policy module from this file.

    2. Add the policy module.

  5. Challenge

    Start the JBoss EAP Service

    Start the service by running sudo systemctl start jboss-eap-rhel.
