The purpose for this lab is to have you install Fluentd onto the provided lab server. By the end of the lab, you will have learned how to install Fluentd and how to test that it is working.

Learning Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Log In to the Provided Server

Log in to the server as cloud_user with the provided password to ensure you can log in. When the file SERVER-READY is shown in the /home/cloud_user folder, then you can follow along with the tasks.

Install Fluentd

Install Fluentd using whatever command is required. The install script has been downloaded and is located under /home/cloud_user/install-redhat-td-agent4.sh.

Test that Fluentd Has Started

The default configuration file will be installed with Fluentd. Test that Fluentd has started. Use whatever commands are required.

Validate Fluentd Installation

As a final test to ensure Fluentd is working, post some text to the standard Fluentd port.

The information to use is http://localhost:8888/debug.test.

You should see the output if you examine the default log found at /var/log/td-agent/td-agent.log.

Additional Resources

Your boss has heard about Fluentd and how it can be used with logs on a server. He believes it is easy to install and set up and wants you to test it out.

You will install the software, and you will be provided the installation script for that purpose.

Once it is installed and you have started it and set it up for an autostart on a server reboot, you will need to test that it works and its output goes into the Fluentd log.

This will help you learn how to install Fluentd and how to check that your installation is working.
