About this Hands-on Lab

In this lab, we walkthrough setting up Azure Blob storage in Azure. This beginner level hands-on lab covers several concepts — Azure storage accounts, Azure containers, and Azure Blobs.

Learning Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Create a Storage Account

Create a Storage Account using the Azure Portal and the settings below.

Storage Account:

Note: The resource group has already been created for you.

  1. Log into the Azure Portal using the credentials provided
  2. Ensure you are using the preexisting resource group
  3. Create a storage account resource by clicking + Add
  4. In the search bar type and select Storage account >> Create
  5. Name your Storage account name using a unique name
  6. Select East US 2 region under Location
  7. Set Replication to Locally-redundant storage (LRS)
  8. Selecting Next: Networking >> Next: Data Protection
  9. Under this Data Protection section select Turn on soft delete for blobs and Turn on versioning
  10. Advance through the next pages by selecting Next: Advanced >> Next: Tags (no tags should be entered)
  11. Finish creating the storage account with Review + Create and Create (Deployment may take a few moments.)
  12. Click Go to resource
Create a Blob Container

Note: Container Naming Conventions

  1. Under Blob service select Containers
  2. Create container with + Container
  3. Name the container as images
  4. Select Create
  5. Click on the newly created images storage container
Upload a Blob

Note: Blob Naming Conventions

  1. Upload a Blob by selecting Upload link
  2. Select a file from your computer by clicking on the folder icon under Files
  3. Click Upload
  4. If sucessful, you’ll see the file name in your images container

This hands-on lab uses the Azure Portal, so you don't have to install any software, just follow along by using the web browser.

Please, log in to the live Azure environment by copying the provided credentials and using the Open Azure Portal button.
