About this Hands-on Lab

In this hands-on lab, you will learn how to build trust — trust between two servers in two different forests, that is! To do so, you will first create the environment, and then confirm its DNS settings.

Learning Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Configure DNS for the New-VM Environment

Validate and configure the environment for New-VM in order to create the needed trust between corp.sandynetworking01.com and dev.sandynetworking01.com:

  1. Confirm or create a dev.sandynetworking01.com forest.
  2. Configure DNS to be able to access corp.sandynetworking01.com.
Create a Trust Between the Servers
  1. On the New-VM server, create a trust for corp.sandynetworking01.com with the following settings:
    • Forest trust
    • Two-way
    • This domain only
    • Forest-wide authentication
  2. On the Main-VM server, repeat all the previous steps to configure DNS and create a trust for dev.sandynetworking01.com.
  3. Confirm the trust was established successfully between the two servers in their separate forests.

Additional Resources

Scenario

Welcome to Fiji! Your company, Sand, Sun, and Oddly Networking, Inc. is a global chain of luxury hotels that specializes in tropical locations. Concerned about high availability, they would like to add an additional domain controller to their existing domain. In this hands-on lab, you will learn how to create a one-way trust between two servers in two different forests. To do so, you will first need to create the environment and confirm its DNS settings.

Lab Setup

In this lab, you will connect to the servers using Remote Desktop. You won’t need to access the Azure portal.

Note: To complete this lab, use one of the following Remote Desktop clients:

If you get stuck, feel free to check out the lab objectives or the solution video. Good luck!
