About this Hands-on Lab

You are working in an environment where virtual machines have just been deployed to Azure, and you want to set up monitoring for these virtual machines. Specifically, you want to run queries against virtual machine data across the infrastructure environment. To do this, in this hands-on lab, you will configure a Log Analytics workspace to receive data from a virtual machine.

Learning Objectives

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Create a Log Analytics Workspace
  • Create a new Log Analytics workspace.
    • NOTE: Use the same region as the existing resources.
Configure the Monitoring Agent
  • Connect a virtual machine to send data to the Log Analytics workspace.
Verify the Configuration
  • Confirm the VM extension has been deployed.
  • Run a sample heartbeat query against the data sent from the virtual machine to Log Analytics.
    • NOTE: It may take up to 15 minutes for some data to populate.
  • Check the monitoring agent’s health in the Log Analytics Agent Health workbook.
