This hands-on lab offers an introduction to the Azure portal, including a review of the navigation elements, a walkthrough of common activities, how to find resources (in this case, a virtual machine), and how to create and modify a custom dashboard.

  1. Review the top menu:
    • Quick Search bar
    • Cloud Shell
    • Notifications
    • Settings
  2. Review the hub menu:
    • Dashboard/Home icons
    • Resource categories
    • Cost Management + Billing
    • Help + support
  3. Review the Dashboard
    • Share/Edit/Modify the dashboard
Review the Dashboard
  1. Find the virtual machine using Quick Search.
  2. Pin resource metric charts to the dashboard.
  3. Learn how to organize and manage a custom dashboard instance.

As a first-time or novice Azure user, you want to get familiar with the Azure Portal and customize dashboards.

To do this, you will log in to the Azure Portal, familiarize yourself with the layout and navigation, and create and customize dashboards showing helpful information.

This activity gives instructions for this lab. Follow along with those, and you will have successfully connected to the Azure Portal and created and customized your dashboards.
