With the growing popularity of cloud computing, it is important to be familiar with cloud management interfaces and services. In this hands-on lab, you will be exploring the AWS Management Console and reviewing some of the key services that it provides.

Successfully complete this lab by achieving the following learning objectives:

Access the AWS Web Console
  • Use the link provided to access the AWS web console login page.
  • Enter the IAM username and password provided to log in.
Explore the EC2 Service
  • Locate the EC2 service and navigate to the EC2 dashboard.
  • Begin the process of launching an instance to see what options are available.
Explore the Elastic Beanstalk Service
  • Locate the Elastic Beanstalk service and navigate to the homepage.
  • Begin the process of creating an application to see what options are available.
Explore the Lambda Service
  • Locate the Lambda service and navigate to the Functions page.
  • Begin the process of creating a function to see what options are available.
Explore the S3 Service
  • Locate the S3 service and navigate to the S3 homepage.
  • Begin the process of creating an S3 bucket to see what options are available.

Scenario

You work as an engineer on the infrastructure team of a mid-sized company. The leadership team has decided that it would be beneficial to take advantage of a cloud platform to help with the rapidly expanding growth of the IT infrastructure. As part of this initiative, you have been tasked with researching Amazon Web Services as a viable option. You have been given a provisional account to use for this investigation and will need to report back on your findings.

The main services being considered:

  • EC2
  • Elastic Beanstalk
  • Lambda
  • S3

You will need to log in to the AWS Management Console, locate each of these services, and review the options and configurations that are provided.
