Is it not possible to attach an EFS to the Kubernetes nodes? I read that it supports both block and files based systems but heard only S3 and EBS. Perhaps I didn’t get the point.

You can use Amazon EFS CSI to mount EFS volumes: https://docs.aws.amazon.com/eks/latest/userguide/efs-csi.html
