By setting up alerts, I am assuming Matt is going to show us in the future which services are going to be charged and then hit alert limit and send notifications.
Hello! If you pay attention to what you’re doing and not going too far off course (even a bit off course is definitely fine!), then you should still have tons of the $300 free credit left after completing this course–and maybe even all of it because everything you did fell within the free tier.
I do prefer for students to have the guard-rails of a free trial account, though, to protect them–but it is because of risk-management and not because you should get anywhere close to that amount of spend. In fact, even though I designed all the labs and worked through them multiple times, I barely even scratched the surface on my own lab account’s $300 credit. 🙂 Definitely do make sure that you have properly set up your billing management, though–with alerts, export to BQ, and delegating non-management access cross-account. And always pay attention to the expected and potential costs of every action you take.
I hope you enjoy the rest of the course!

Thank you for the explanation Mattias and also Bharathkumar. I’ve set up the guard-rails as you instructed on your lessons, just wanted to be sure not to waste all the credits and then need to create another account from the beginning 🙂 So far the course is really great and I love the labs!
Awesome! Glad to hear it! And no problem at all. 😎
