when i past my keypair into the nano the format changes and afterword when i ssh into my ec2 it asks for a pasaphrase

if it is asking for passphrase then your have set the passphrase in your local machine’s ssh configuration.

One trick you can try for copying and pasting is using the Shift Key plus the insert key to paste content from your clipboard.
