I have kept Index.html in var/www/html directory. while i can see apache server page, my Index.html webpage is not visible. Any idea regarding this issue?

You can view the default installation layouts for Apache HTTPD on various operating systems and distributions here:
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/httpd/DistrosDefaultLayout
Your Apache config file would list where apache expects the document root.
