Chapter 7 – What are the advantages of using a database for storing data?

We are given several options here. I got one of the answers wrong.

The correct answer which I inputted incorrectly is "The data is sorted for you when it is inserted.".

I’m not a DB expert, but done my fair bit, the data is not sorted for you, it’s placed in the corresponding tables with the attributes you choose, but it Is not sorted for you. Or maybe I am misunderstanding what it is trying to imply here ?

Any thoughts/views would be superb.

I’m on 49% of the course so far and enjoying it, thanks Lars, reminds me a bit of the train signal videos which were around many years ago 🙂

Thanks,

G.

Hi G,

You are right, "sorted" is a bit of a leap, but a database allows sorting very very efficiently. Although the course doesn’t go into specific details for databases, you may be familiar with indices on data, tables and columns. Using an index correctly will in effect sort, or categorize, the data for you.

I could possibly have explained that better, but chose the more abstract path to convey the message or organised data.

Cheers,
Lars

Hey Lars, sorry for the delay. Fully noted, splendid. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing anything out, or misunderstood 🙂 Keep up the awesome work please. 🙂
