I am just curious, why do they want us to create a free Azure account when we have the playgrounds available? I don’t mind at all creating one but just wanted to understand why we would use our free account when playgrounds are available.

A free account will give you access to some things that you don’t have access to in Cloud Playground. It’s also good to understand the sign-up process and what’s involved.
Once you’ve signed up, take a look at things like support, cost management, budgets, and the parts of Azure AD that you can’t see in Cloud Playground.
If you’re getting hands-on in your day-to-day job, it might not be necessary, depending on your access to a live tenant and subscription.
