AZ-900 Practice Exam and Availability Zones

Question asks:

What are the characteristics of an Availability Zone?

(Choose 3)

And then these options (correct answers marked with X):

Each zone runs different Azure services

Availability Zones only apply for Storage Accounts

Availability Zones exist within regions X

Availability Zones protect your instances from the failure of a single datacenter X

Each zone has its own isolated power, cooling, and networking X

I’m a bit confused (not difficult to be fair) on the last option as the definition of a ‘zone’ seems to be that it is made up of multiple Data Centres and it would be those which would have their own power, cooling etc so that definition would fit to Data Centers and not to a zone?

Hi James,

That is a good question. According to the Azure documentation, "Each zone is made up of one or more datacenters equipped with independent power, cooling, and networking."

I can see how this can be confusing though, so thanks for bringing it up. I think the second to last answer could be worded better, as the meaning is "single point of failure" rather than "single datacenter".

Cheers,
Lars
