Etymology of K8s

Isn’t it K8S because 8 sounds like the ate part of kubern8s

Apparently it’s a form of abbreviation, taking the first and last letters and counting the number of letters in-between: Kubernetes = k8s.

Unlikely! The etymology explained in the video seems correct, since it’s in line with other abbreviations used in IT. Compare for instance i18n (internationalization) and a11y (accessibility). For more examples, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Numeronym
