Etymology of K8s

Isn’t it K8S because 8 sounds like the ate part of kubern8s

Apparently it’s a form of abbreviation, taking the first and last letters and counting the number of letters in-between: Kubernetes = k8s.

Unlikely! The etymology explained in the video seems correct, since it’s in line with other abbreviations used in IT. Compare for instance i18n (internationalization) and a11y (accessibility). For more examples, see
