In the AWS Storage Services Overview, it states, " In fact, Amazon S3 is designed for 99.999999999 percent (11 nines) durability per object and 99.99 percent availability over a one-year period". What period does the 11 nines durability refer to?

Hi Neil,
The 11 nines mean that objects stored on S3 will have a very very very low likelihood of being damaged or corrupted over a 1 year period. The 99.99 percent availability means that the S3 service will be up and available for you to read or write your objects 99.99% of the time.
