You Have a License to Cloud — Use it

What’s one of the easiest ways to get the most out of your ACG for Business membership? Simple. Use your licenses!

If you haven’t, we get it. There are all kinds of reasons why licenses might sit idle. Training rollouts going slower than expected. The hassle of herding cats. The fear that some employees might “take the training and run”. The temptation to hold and protect (some might say hoard) licenses.

Still, just because licenses can go unused, doesn’t mean that they should go unused. A license’s best life is one of heavy use, not unlike the famous Hunter S. Thompson line:

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming “Wow! What a Ride!”

Hesitant about using up and wearing out those licenses? Here are a few reasons to get them into the hands of your employees:

Cloud training is a fantastic retention tool

Worried that your best talent will snag a few certifications and jump ship? Don’t be. Studies have shown that companies with strong learning cultures have 30-50% higher retention rates. In fact, among “high-retention-risk” employees, a lack of development and advancement opportunities are more likely to drive them into the arms of Linkedin.

A strong learning culture is a competitive advantage

Companies with strong learning cultures (and an open hand with training licenses) are 58% more likely to have the skills in place to meet changing market conditions. They’re also 32% more likely to be first to market with innovative solutions.

Certifications let you validate and gamify access

Cloud certifications are a great way to validate knowledge and make sure your teams are speaking a common language, but they can also be used as keys to unlock greater permissions and flexibility within your cloud platform, providing an additional incentive for your people to level up their skillsets.

A generous license policy can help identify talent in unlikely places

Taking a more generous stance on licenses can reveal talent outside of your obvious core teams. The United States Air Force, for example, has found that its aircraft maintainers are remarkably well-suited to cloud computing and cyber operations. Chances are, you have untapped Cloud Gurus in your organization, just waiting for opportunity and encouragement.

An unused license is a wasted license. When you use all of your licenses, you’re not only giving them their best life, you’re also upleveling employee skills and morale, and giving your company a competitive advantage.

What are you waiting for?

Head to your dashboard and start dropping licenses like it’s hot.
